About Us

The campsite is surrounded by large granite boulders and outcroppings of rock, dotted with Mopane trees, providing a retreat in this hot, dry wilderness. Thought was given to the layout when designing the camp, and there is plenty of space allocated to each site, granting privacy and solitude. In addition to traditional camping, we offer four well-appointed permanent tents that provide you with the camping experience, but with a touch more comfort and convenience.

Nearby, a delightful splash pool awaits, hidden within the rocky outcrops and offering a serene oasis where you can relax on the deck close to the pool under the sprawling African Star-Chestnut tree. You can rest, taking in the captivating views of the surrounding landscape, while quenching your thirst at the bar. This is a wonderfully social spot, where you can sit back and socialise with fellow travellers and friendly staff alike.

For those that might be short on equipment, we have braai packs available for purchase from reception, but please do make every effort to advise that these are required in advance, as we are in a remote location and planning is required. Additionally, we can offer the rental of cutlery and crockery to ease your stay and make the experience more pleasurable.

With a wide range of activities available at the nearby Grootberg Lodge and here at Hoada Campsite, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating life of our local community and explore the wonders of this incredible region. Do visit the Activities page on the website, where you will find more information about these excursions, which promise to leave you with unforgettable experiences and lasting memories.

Due to our location and commitment to sustainability, there is no grid electricity, however we have basic 12-volt solar power. Unfortunately, this cannot be used for high-powered items such as fridges or kettles, but this only adds to the experience of going back to basics and appreciating the simple things in life. A charming feature of this campsite is that the fire for your meals, cooked outdoors, doubles as a water heater for your shower.

Access to the camp is via a well-maintained gravel road, however we do advise that a high clearance 4x4 vehicle is used to avoid complications on your travels. The condition of the roads can vary, particularly in the rainy season from November to April.

Hoada is the perfect stopover for those enroute to and from Swakopmund and gives the opportunity for a fantastic camping experience in the wild, and a break from civilisation. As the area is home to a wonderful array of flora, fauna, and geological sites, there is much to do and see.
